Şiveluci Volcano Kamchatka Peninsula (Russia) had an eruption of ash reached an altitude of up to nine kilometers into the atmosphere, according to the spokesman of the regional branch of Russian Academy of Sciences, quoted by Itar-Tass page online.
The ash emissions were accompanied by a series of small earthquakes and avalanches of volcanic rocks. The ash cloud extending up to 186 kilometers southwest of the volcano.
Aviation authorities have issued a code red alert on flights around the volcano.
Şiveluci is located in northern Kamchatka Peninsula, with a height of 3283 meters. The highest point of the active part of the volcano is situated at an altitude of 2008 meters.
