At least 116 dead after a tornado in the U.S. state of Missouri.
At least 116 people died on Monday following the tornado that devastated the city of Joplin in the U.S. state of Missouri, where the response team is still trying on Tuesday morning to find survivors.
.
U.S. Weather Service said late last week there were 46 tornadoes that hit seven states of central and northern United States.
Joplin, a town of 50,000 inhabitants, situated a few kilometers from the border states Kansas and Oklahoma, was largely destroyed by the tornado, the most devastating U.S. registered after 1953.
"The city was destroyed at a rate of three quarters, and the balance would worsen, " said Christy Bertelson, spokesman for the governor of Missouri.
More than 1,100 wounded have been admitted to hospitals in the area after the passage of a tornado, according to local newspaper Joplin Globe.
