Via Quad Core
Via Quad Core Processor
While Intel and AMD processors are struggling to bring increasingly better performance with more cores and embedded VIA struggles to bring its first quad core. It is scheduled for the third quarter of this year 2011, using 40 nm process technology, and is called simply L4700.
And it is actually made of two dual core CPUs Nano placed on the same silicon chip. Rated frequency is only 1.2 GHz, bus is 266 MHz and 1333 MHz FSB reach. L2 cache is 4 MB and the TDP does not exceed 27.5 W.
.
But in this limit they can go up to 1.46 GHz frequency, thanks to technology called Adaptive Overclocking. Otherwise this process receives SSE3 instructions, virtualization, and opportunities for accelerated AES encryption. More details and compatible platforms will most likely be unveiled at Computex 2011.
